David G. Orphanides discusses "The Future of Washington Avenue" on a Design Advocacy Group panel.

On April 2, 2015, David G. Orphanides was a panelist at a public meeting of the Design Advocacy Group on the topic of "The Future of Washington Avenue," which focused on planning and zoning issues relating to the post-industrial development of Washington Avenue. 

The panelists discussed a variety of issues facing Washington Avenue including: the changing nature of the Avenue from industrial to commercial and residential uses; options for increasing pedestrian and bike safety on the Avenue via restriping and bikes lanes; and parking.  Mr. Orphanides spoke on the challenges faced by business owners and developers due to the Avenue’s current industrial zoning classification. 

The panel also consisted of Steve Cobb, Esq., Director of Legislation for Councilman Kenyatta Johnson; Eleanor Sharpe, Director of Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs for the Philadelphia City Planning Commission; Thomas Donatucci, the President of the Washington Avenue Property Owners Association; and Jon Greeting, a PlanPhilly reporter and safe streets advocate.
